If you’re reading this, you’re probably at the point in life where you feel incredibly drawn toward finding greater meaning. In my own experience, I began to have many questions and a burning desire to find "truth" – whatever that was.
So just where are the answers to the big universal questions - where did we come from or why we are here? We are surrounded by answers! Have you ever had an "Aha" moment where you suddenly realize that the answer to a burning question has been right in front of you all along? You may have wondered why oh why hadn’t you seen it before?
Consider this: Science has proven that our brains learn and remember by attaching new information to our framework of existing understanding. From the time we are born, the things we observe and learn are saved in our brains as memories or beliefs. As we collect new observations, they are attached to these older memories and beliefs to create a framework of our perceived understanding.
Answers to questions about where we come from or why we are here are vast in nature. In order for us to comprehend them, they must fit into the (very small) framework of knowledge that we have. Wow. Think about this for a moment! Each time we expand our framework of knowledge, information is able to migrate to a more appropriate place in our understanding. "Aha" moments appear when our framework of knowledge has expanded enough to place a particular piece of information in a place within our intelligence where it makes the most sense. We call this evolution of understanding GROWTH. Isn’t it beautiful?! The more we grow, the more accurately our brains can piece information together. Our framework of understanding evolves into a more complete and accurate representation of truth.
Twenty years ago, I though reincarnation was completely absurd. I thought the notions about 2012 were science fiction. Angels? Didn’t exist. Hypnotism? Fake. None of the Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic, or "new age" ideas was logical or possible according to my existing conservative Christian western framework of understanding.
Then, I encountered some different ideas about death and the afterlife that seemed, for lack of a better term, ‘logical’ to me at that time in my life. I learned about our brains and the immense capabilities of the neural networks of living organisms. I began to understand quantum physics. Now, with this expanded framework of understanding some of the possibilities within our existence, some ideas I had previously rejected suddenly seemed not only possible but logical, probable, and…enlightening. Aha! Answers suddenly became clear. My framework of understanding had expanded enough that these previously rejected ideas now had a place in my consciousness where they fit perfectly.
For years, I searched for "truth" in religion…truth about what happens when we die, truth about God, truth about why we are here. The more I searched, the more I found doors – obstacles to my understanding – dogmatic argument about who was right and who was wrong. One mortal human telling another what they should believe.
Gradually came the realization that "truth" wasn’t one book or one guru’s teachings. Pieces of truth were in nature and in the seemingly different beliefs of world cultures and even in the depths of intuition. If you ask a group of people to stand in a circle around a sculpture so that each person is looking at the sculpture from a different perspective, and then ask them to describe the sculpture, you get many different descriptions of the same object. Now imagine that each person in the circle is of completely different background – complete diversity of age, nationality, socio-economic group, education, etc. For a real trip, imagine that each of these people also comes from a different time in world history – paleolithic, ancient Egyptian, 33 A.D., the peak of the Roman Empire, the American depression era, the 1900’s and so on.
Which of the descriptions of the sculpture would you call "truth?" Well, don’t they all contain truth? Of course, the way a Native American shaman describes what he sees is going to be quite different than the way a Roman soldier describes his view. They must be different. Not only are they looking at a different view of the sculpure, but the ‘framework’ of understanding which each person accesses in order to make sense of what they see is quite different. They can only explain what they see in relation to that which they already understand.
As another example, I could certainly describe to you my understanding of quantum mechanics. While it would definitely contain some accurate information, it would certainly sound different than Einstein’s description of the same theory. There may appear to be conflicts in the information, simply because the tools I have for understanding/describing my perception are very limited in comparison to Einstein’s descriptive tools. Einstein and I have very different frameworks.
This idea became particularly clear to me when I started seeking an understanding of death and what happens after we die. Most conscious, waking humans today haven’t experienced death – so how can a preacher or teacher tell us truthfully what happens when someone dies? Yet, every culture has very explicit beliefs about death, and they vary widely. And, we can only assume that each of these beliefs (i.e. perspectives) about death is based on something.
Perhaps the key to understanding truth and the many apparently conflicting ideas is to learn and understand each perspective, each perception, each framework. Instead of judging each belief linearly as ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, ‘logical’ or ‘irrational’, what if we explore a more spatial perspective? If we treat each belief as one description of a portion of a giant puzzle, suddenly these seemingly conflicting beliefs begin to fit together to form a whole idea. All cultures in history have their own way of describing God, death, worship, etc. Each of these beliefs came from some experience or search for understanding of truth, much in the way our own beliefs come from our own experience and search for truth. Surely, they all contain some portion of truth.
As we contemplate many perspectives, we expand our framework of potential understanding. As our framework expands, we begin to create a place in our minds where we can eventually comprehend very expansive truths. We all hold keys that open doors of truth. They become available as our framework expands sufficiently to accommodate them. In order for growth and understanding to occur, we must be willing to expand our framework of knowledge ("consciousness"), and be open to receive and accept new information and ideas ("awareness") as they find their way into our lives. When we choose to become more conscious and more aware, our framework of understanding and our grasp of ‘truth’ grow in explosive ways!
Now, does this mean it is beneficial to believe everything we hear? Of course not. Our brains have analytical ability for good reason. However, accepting information is different than accepting information as truth. It is possible to place information within our framework of reference for future use without labeling it as true or false. For example, I was told several years ago that the world would end in December 2012. I don’t know that to be true or false. However, I’m glad that little tidbit has been filed away in my memory banks. It has become useful as I learn about cyclic shifts in space, Mayan culture, and cycles of consciousness. I still don’t know that it is true or false, but I do believe it is part of a perception that gives insight into some very enlightening pieces of truth.
Often, when we encounter new information we do not have the means to make a judgment as to its truthfulness…we simply must store it away for the time when we have enough information to place it accurately within our framework of understanding. It is how we grow.
I have been so inspired and led to growth by others that explored ideas or shared some of the keys to their own understanding. My primary purpose in this blog is to offer something for people to run across when they are searching for answers – to offer a key to an obstacle or a path to information – to somehow be a tool to spark growth. And, this journey for truth is so exciting, mind-blowing, and incredible that I just have to share it with someone!
As we all combine our frameworks of knowledge we create a huge network of consciousness. We have so much to learn from each other! Share what you’ve learned; ask to have a topic addressed; find like-minded people that you resonate with. Let’s join together and move forward – becoming a global community intentionally helping each other grow and evolve into our highest and best purpose.
Blessings…

Interesting article,I've never heard it put quite like that...(mental framework) I call it "worldview" same thing. I've been storing a lot of unvalidated information in my mental "framework" lately because of the many questions I have. As a Christian, I am left with many more questions than I thought I wolud have at this point in life, but I have yet to attain any information that would cause me to abandon my beliefs totally. I will say this though, as the Bible states...I believe humans will continue to devolve instead of evolve. The condition of the human heart is rapidly deteriorating. Just look around you, times are worse than I can ever remember in my lifetime. Word of advice, if I may, don't totally abandon your Christian roots simply because of the poor example given by todays professing Christian's. Keep storing the knowledge you accumulate, and keep writing.
